Violence against women online has become an increasing issue of concern in Namibia, and hence there was a need to raise awareness especially on Women’s Month. In collaboration with the Namibia Women in Computing ISOC Namibia organized this panel discussion that amongst others highlighted legislation and legal instrument in curbing online violence but also to make local partnership and create local call to speak out against online violence. The panel included a representative from UNICEF, the ICT Regulatory Authority, Office of the First Lady as well as the Dean of the Faculty of Computing & Informatics.
This panel discussion interactions reveals a deeper need to continue deepening advocacy on the safety of women online and the chapter seeks to continue engagement and discuss further with other stakeholders on the extent of this kinds of violence and identify ways to fill the existing gaps as well as formulate a possible strategy on dealing with violence online.
